Shop4Shelves provide a range of shelving solutions to both industrial and domestic customers. To help our customers get the best from our products we have listed below a few points to help with the correct stacking of shelving units. This will ensure the longevity of our products whilst also reducing the potential for injury or damage sustained as a result of incorrectly stacked shelving.
Always place heavy, large and awkward loads as close to ground level as possible. This will lower the centre of gravity and reduce the risk of the unit toppling over. This will also reduce the risk of injury or damage caused by heavy items falling.
High turnover or often used items should be placed on the shelving unit in a space that is easily accessible. These items should also be placed around waist height to reduce the risk of back strain caused by the regular lifting.
Small items should be placed in boxes on the shelving levels and not spilt out of boxes onto the shelving where they can be lost or damaged.
To avoid overreaching try and use a step ladder or step stool when locating or removing items from the uppermost shelf levels.
To ensure that you have an adequate amount of room around the units to be able to safely locate and remove items do not put the shelving units too close together and facing each other.
Whilst we do not proclaim to be experts in the correct way to stack shelves we hope that you will find the above tips useful. For more comprehensive information on this subject please visit the HSE website.
